a. All open sided floors and platforms four feet or more above adjacent floor/ground level will be guarded by a standard railing (top and mid rail, toe board if required). b. All stairways of four or more risers will be guarded by a handrail, or stair rails on the open side. Handrails or stair rails will be provided on both sides if the stairs are more than 44 inches wide. c. When a hole or floor opening is created during a work activity, a cover or a barricade must be installed immediately. d. Safety harnesses, belts, lanyards, lines, and lifelines may be used in lieu of other fall protection systems to provide the required fall protection. e.
